The new Micro-CAM by Moducom will work with any remote position computer including the ELO 1529L Touchcomputer. The 1529L is a nice self-contained package which makes it attractive for a small-footprint a Remote Position.
A Software Remote Operator Position provides almost all of the functionality of a conventional Ultra-Com operator position without requiring a CAM box and a dedicated T1 connection to the MEP. In this configuration, a standard Windows PC running the Ultra-Com Run Mode Operator Position software connects to a local (or remote) MEP via an IP network. There is no CAM connected to the PC. The Operator Position software routes the position’s Select and Unselect audio to standard multimedia speakers connected to the PC. The operator uses a microphone connected to the PC sound card for transmit audio. The operator interacts with the Operator Screens using a mouse, optional touch screen and the keyboard. While this configuration is less costly than a full CAM-based operator position and can be located anywhere there is access to the Moducom IP network, it does have several limitations. The most serious limitations are the lack of a standard desk microphone, headset jack and footswitch connections. The Micro-CAM is a low cost USB accessory that restores the use of these peripherals when using a Software Remote operator position.
Remember, the Micro-CAM's only real purpose is to support and improve the functionality of a Software Remote Position. It is really an accessory to a Software Remote Position which is the real product.
These are the rankings of the four main benefits of the Micro-CAM and a remote position.
1. Allows the use of standard headsets, handsets, desk microphone and footswitch on a Software Remote Position.
2. Lower cost.
3. Flexible deployment.
4. Small footprint.
Project 25 News
The Project 25 standard will have technology open to others, but the Steering Committee and TIA (Standards) have not developed the console interface standard.
Modular Communication Systems (Moducom) is a signatory to the MOU Memorandum of Understanding as regards Project 25, which means that console interface technology will be available to us at sometime in the future.
Moducom is now offering Distributive Network Capability or VOIP. These vendor furnished virtual positions shall have the ability to interface to an existing Local Area Network (LAN) or direct through T1 interface to the Common Electronics. In addition a laptop or desk top PC from this system or other like systems can be interfaced through an existing LAN or WAN to the Ethernet LAN connection of the common electronics through a router or hub. These units shall use their own speakers for select and unselect radio audio as well as telephone audio. Up to four units can be connected to a single PIC (Position Interface Card). This provides interoperability with other like systems so that remote positions or local positions can either dispatch there own units or the units of another system.
Modular Communication Systems, Inc. Product brochures now available on-line. Brochures for our Integrated Ultra-Com Radio/Telephone/E911/Mapping/Logging Dispatch System are available in our document download area.
